A-T Children's Project raises funds to support and coordinate biomedical research projects, scientific conferences and a clinical center aimed at finding a cure or life-improving therapies for ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T). Ataxia-Telangiectasia is a rare genetic disease that attacks in early childhood. A-T affects many body systems including the brain, lungs, and immune system. As such, patients may suffer from symptoms like those seen in cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and certain lung disorders. They are also much more likely to develop cancer, particularly immune-related cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. One in 40,000-100,000 babies are born with A-T.

The Visalia Host Lions is the oldest of the six Lions clubs in town, chartered in 1926. They are a service group that works in the community to support other non profit organizations, schools and school programs. They also host vision screening programs in schools and to the public for children 8 months an older and help them get glasses.
