The Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) is a non-profit organization serving high school and middle level student councils in Texas. Sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, TASC is the Texas Affiliate of the National Association of Student Councils. Its purposes are to develop leadership abilities in students, promote democracy as a way of life and establish and uphold high standards for local councils. Girls on the Run, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is a physical activity-based positive youth development (PA-PYD) program that is designed to enhance girls' social, psychological, physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences. The program's intentional curriculum places an emphasis on developing competence, confidence, connection, character, caring and contribution in young girls through lessons that incorporate running and other physical activities. The life skills curriculum is delivered by caring and competent coaches who are trained to teach lessons as intended.
Girls on the Run International is the parent organization to over 200 councils, serving over 200,000 girls annually. What started with a team of 13 girls in 1996 is now a national force for good, serving girls across all 50 states.
