The Ball State University Office of Information Security Services is tasked with ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and information systems at Ball State University in Indiana. This organization also provides awareness to their faculty, staff and students on a variety of cyber-security issues, including identity theft, mobile device security and the dangers of social media.
October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month and the Office of Information Security Services will be hosting several events across campus to promote public awareness and education on how to stay safe online and the need for cyber security. With MARCO promotional t-shirts, the "Information Security - Our Shared Responsibility" campaign will continue to be visible across campus throughout the year. The Wyoming Employees Community Outreach (WECO) of Wyoming, MI was created in 2003 to help support needy families that live in the City of Wyoming. City employees voluntarily pledge a portion of their paychecks to support this non-profit organization which benefits their neighbors. Since its start in 2003, WECO has been able to assist over 700 families, benefiting nearly 1900 children.
Those families chosen to receive assistance receive a voucher to the local Target store where they can purchase clothing, footwear, school supplies and other necessities. Obtaining promotional items imprinted with the Wyoming Employees Community Outreach information will allow WECO to promote their organization with local businesses when seeking donations. Studies have shown that the vast majority of individuals with disabilities prefer to work in the community, regardless of the level of their disability. The Community Employment Alliance was created in 2009 to bring together a network of businesses and employment service providers to provide support and employment for people with disabilities throughout Washington state.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Community Employment Alliance will be hosting a conference to promote the hiring of people with disabilities to businesses and elected officials that will include an Outstanding Employer & Legislator Awards Ceremony. Since 1998, Volunteer McKinney has connected volunteers to local nonprofit organizations. It provides a central place for those wanting to volunteer to find opportunities in their community and for organizations in need of volunteer help to connect with those willing to lend a hand.
Volunteer McKinney has also served the community through community-wide events such as the National "Make a Difference Day" and Community Volunteer Recognition Events. Make a Difference Day is held the last Saturday in October when over 500 volunteers participate by completing projects at multiple sites across the city at the same time. Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, which began 30 years ago as a collaboration between the Cincinnati business community and public schools, empowers vulnerable children and young adults to overcome obstacles and succeed in education, career, and life.
CYC provides a range of services designed to keep kids in school, prepared for college and career, and on the path to success in life. They offer mentoring, college readiness and success, and career preparation, bringing together over 1900 volunteers and 75 local businesses to support the future of our city - our students - and to build a stronger Cincinnati.
During the 2012-2013 academic year, 80% of CYC students were promoted to the next grade; 93% of CYC senior students graduated from high school and 86% of students successfully transitioned to college, career, or military.
