Honor Flight New England joined the national Honor Flight Network organization in the Spring of 2009, created solely to honor America's veterans for all of the sacrifices they have made. Honor Flight New England flies our heroes to Washington, DC, at no cost to them, to visit and reflect at their memorials. For our WWII veterans, time for expressing thanks to them by helping them visit these memorials is quickly running out.

While priority is given to WWII vets, Honor Flight NE will also pay tribute to American heroes who have served during the Korean and Vietnam wars, as well as, veterans of current wars. In the past four years, Honor Flight NE has flown 1100 veterans on 35 flights to visit the war memorials.

The mission of the Bowling Green State University's Dance Marathon is to raise money and awareness for Toledo's Mercy Children's Hospital and to benefit Children's Miracle Network Families. Through fundraising and the involvement of the campus and Bowling Green communities, they strive to make a difference in the lives of children, and are thankful for the opportunity to help make Miracles happen. They truly believe in the motto, "For The Kids".

Despite a reputation for being self-centered, every year thousands of college students spend countless hours raising funds for the hospitals supported by the Children's Miracle Network. The fundraising culminates in an annual Dance Marathon on campuses across the country. For BGSU, the Dance Marathon happens each April and the event is staffed by students: from the executive board to the volunteers who help the dancers stay on their feet for 32 hours. They raise money, solicit volunteers and sponsors, plan several events, including the marathon itself, organize a bike-a-thon, ride in the bike-a-thon and dance. Because the funds they raise benefit the local Toledo hospital, these college students, staff and donors get the opportunity to personally meet the kids who benefit from their hard work - which is what keeps them going each year.

Sometimes, the funds raised provide a toy that distracts from an invasive procedure. Sometimes, it funds technology for new treatments previously unavailable. Sometimes, it pays for research resulting in groundbreaking discoveries. In all cases, the work done and the money raised provides a warm hand reaching out to patients who often feel alone and afraid.

The Inspire Youth Group, a group of 6-12 grade students from St. John's Lutheran Church, have an ongoing service project that supports the Lehigh County Children and Youth Foster program. The Inspire Youth Group fills backpacks with comfort necessities to give to children entering the foster care system for the first time. These backpacks are filled with teddy bears, a flashlight, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, coloring books, crayons, journals and a hairbrush. Entering foster care can be a traumatic experience for children but these backpacks provide a bit of comfort for them.

The Inspire Youth Group plans to use their promotional products grant to purchase additional backpacks for filling with the items that provide comfort in a time of need.

The Achievement Center provides a variety of center and community based services ranging from Early Childhood services, and Physical Rehabilitation to Children's Mental Health Outpatient services. They exclusively serve children, birth to young adulthood, who have significant physical, social/emotional or mental health challenges and it is their mission to maximize the potential of all children. The Achievement Center hopes to help strengthen families by working together to help children and their families develop new skills and abilities to lead healthy, positive lives.
