Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. In August of 2004, Alex passed away at the age of 8, knowing that, with the help of others, she had raised more than $1 million to help find a cure for the disease that took her life.

The ALSF mission is simple: to raise money for and awareness of childhood cancer causes-especially research into new treatments and cures-and to encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer. Since Alex set up her first lemonade stand in 2000-truly exemplifying the saying "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade"- the foundation has raised more than $80 million helping to fund research, provide travel support to the families of children receiving treatment and develop resources to help those affected by childhood cancer.

A local chapter of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), located in Winnewood, PA, plans to use their $500 in promotional products to purchase items for the volunteers at a fundraising event and selling additional items to raise money. Since 1980, the Center for Early Intervention on Deafness (CEID), in Berkeley, CA, has provided exemplary services for young children, from birth to age 5, who are deaf, hard of hearing or who have severe speech and language delays. To achieve their goal of maximizing the communication potential of each of their students, they offer a comprehensive program of early education in combination with extensive therapy (speech, language, auditory, occupational, and physical therapies), home visits, and family education and support. Their highly qualified staff members hold Master's degrees in deaf education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, social work, and infant mental health.

In September, the Center for Early Intervention on Deafness will be launching a special Legacy Fund and plan to use their $500 in promotional products to purchase custom pins to commemorate the occasion. Since its founding in 1980, the Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, has provided reliable information and care consultation, created supportive services for families, increased funding for dementia research, and influenced public policy changes. Today, the Greater Illinois Chapter serves the more than half million Illinois residents affected by Alzheimer's disease throughout the chapter area, including 210,000 people with the disease. One of the many services they offer is Care Navigation, which consists of a professional staff of licensed social workers who can help patients and their families navigate through the difficult decisions and uncertainties faced at any stage of the disease.

The largest fundraiser held by the Alzheimer's Association is The Walk to End Alzheimer's. Walks are held in the Illinois area in late September/Early October.

The Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association plans to use their $500 to purchase tote bags for volunteers to carry training materials to education and outreach programs that they hold throughout the community. First Step is a safe and secure haven for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, covering 12 counties in the North Texas area. This organization is committed to providing a caring, respectful, nurturing, professional, non-violent, and client-centered environment for those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. First Step has provided preventative and crisis intervention services for over 37 years.

In addition to providing a safe haven for victims of domestic abuse, First Step also has a community education program, called Expect Respect, that is taught in the schools by their Education Coordinator. This program is targeted to youth in middle and high school and focuses on topics such as Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Dating Violence, Bullying, Stress Management and the Dangers of Sexting.

First Step plans to use their $500 in promotional items to purchase a sign that can be used at the entrance of their facility to make them easier to find and a table cover that can be used at fundraising and other activities to identify the organization.
